UPPER KURRAM – In two tragic incidents on Thursday, eight schoolteachers were killed by unidentified attackers in Parachinar, leading the Kohat board to cancel ongoing matriculation examinations.
Police reported that unknown individuals opened fire in the staff room of Teri Mengal school, where teachers were on exam duty. In a separate incident, teacher Muhammad Sharif was killed while traveling on Shalozan Road.
A search operation has been launched to find the attackers, while rescue authorities transported the victims to Parachinar hospital.
Rehmat Salam Khattak, Advisor to the KP interim government on education, stated that a new matric examination schedule would be announced once the situation returns to normal.
Condemnations
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the incidents and requested a report from the relevant authorities. Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of life in Kurram district, he offered condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured.
The Prime Minister directed authorities to provide a detailed report on the incidents and emphasized the need to bring those responsible for the heinous act to justice as soon as possible.
President Dr. Arif Alvi also condemned the incidents and prayed for the victims’ forgiveness.
