Palestinian Prisoner Khader Adnan Passes Away After Three-Month Hunger Strike in Israeli Custody
Khader Adnan, a 45-year-old Palestinian prisoner, passed away early Tuesday while in Israeli custody, following an almost three-month-long hunger strike. Adnan had participated in several hunger strikes in the past, including a 55-day strike in 2015, to protest his detention without charge.
Earlier this week, a medic from Physicians for Human Rights Israel visited Adnan in prison, warning of his imminent death and urging for his urgent transfer to a hospital.
In response to Adnan’s death, the Islamic Jihad armed group labeled him a “martyr” and warned Israel that it would “pay the price for this crime.” The father of nine had become a symbol of resistance for many.
The Israeli military reported that missiles launched from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip landed in open territory, causing no damage.
